Build, edit and light OpenUSD scenes, path-traced in real time.

A full OpenUSD editor with a real-time, hardware ray-traced path tracer built in.

The viewport is the render.

Outliner, viewport and panels in one window. Change a camera, a light or a material and the image restarts at once, then refines to a clean frame while you watch.

The advanstage window with the ALab workbench scene in the viewport, the stage outliner on the left and the Lights panel on the right.

Renderer

Path traced, live.

A progressive path tracer on your GPU’s ray-tracing hardware: OptiX on NVIDIA RTX, Vulkan ray tracing on AMD Radeon RX 6000+ and Intel Arc, or a CPU backend that needs no GPU. AI denoising with DLSS Ray Reconstruction or Intel Open Image Denoise.

The OpenPBR Shader Playground open in advanstage, with a long stage hierarchy in the outliner and the Lights panel on the right.

Stage

A full OpenUSD editor.

Open the USD file itself, with no import step, and edit it: prims, transforms, materials, lights, cameras and variants, in the outliner, the properties panel, the material editor and the node graph, with full undo. Your edits go into layers on top, the source files are never touched, and projects are plain .usda files.

Materials

Real materials.

MaterialX, OpenPBR and UsdPreviewSurface, with layered BSDF graphs, glass with dispersion, subsurface scattering, displacement and UDIM textures. A built-in material library, plus optional downloads from open online libraries.

Volumes

Beyond surfaces.

OpenVDB volumes with bright, multiply scattered clouds and fire, hair and curves, instancing at production scale and 3D Gaussian splats. Motion blur, depth of field and caustics come with the path tracer.

Node graph

A node-based stage graph.

More than fifty operator nodes for references, variants, material assignment, light linking and instancing. Every step can be inspected or bypassed.

Output

Production output.

EXR with render and light-path passes, Cryptomatte, deep EXR and ACES / OpenColorIO. A render queue and a windowless command-line renderer.

Automation

Built to be automated.

A built-in MCP server lets AI assistants such as Claude load, edit, light, render and inspect the result. Scripting from Python and the command line.
